Powerprep gre 2 verbal solutions2/17/2024 ![]() ![]() I covered a whole lot of concepts by participating in the daily Q & A sessions, particularly relishing days when quant was the focus. It took me a few days to exhaust those study materials before engaging in intense practice on the GRE group, as you had to be active on the group else, you’d be kicked out. For my performance in the verbal section, just skip, lol. While I initially felt very confident about my ability with any kind of quant, considering my engineering background and knowing the topics it generally covers, my performance was average and reality set in really fast. My preparation started with the Official GRE (quantitative and verbal) reasoning materials by ETS 150 practice questions, where I learned the general structure of the exam and immediately tested my ability to tackle GRE-like questions with the sample questions and answers provided. ![]() Barely a week after introducing myself on the group after being added, a weekday was assigned to me (and new fellows) to coordinate the evening’s question and answer sessions, hence I had to sit up almost immediately. A few graduate students (mostly PhD students in the US), who give useful advice and encouragement, and some others who have already secured admission with funding, continuously gave me hope. Also, one or more people selected to coordinate the day’s session, were in place. In the group, relevant aids including tips on how to get around your graduate school journey, links to GRE (and TOEFL) study materials and tons of questions from materials were posted on a daily basis, mostly in the evening. Till date, the “NEW GRE GROUP ANNEX” I was added to is the most active (by every significant measure) WhatsApp group chat I’ve ever been involved with. My journey started early May, this year, when I was added to a GRE group chat courtesy of Ismail Olaniyi who introduced me to most of what I know today about the graduate school journey. MY SCORE: Quant – 169, Verbal – 151, making a total of 320. The analytical writing is scored over 6, quant and verbal each scored over 170. The computer based exam has six sections: 1 Analytical writing section (I’ll call it AWA) divided into two essay tasks – an argument essay in which you evaluate an argument for its validity and an issue essay in which you generally write about the extent to which you agree with a claim or statement, 2 quantitative sections, 2 verbal sections and 1 experimental section (either quant or verbal). In case you’re not familiar with the term, GRE is an acronym for Graduate Record Examination – an exam required by graduate schools (mostly in the US, Canada, and a few other countries) for admission to Masters and PhD programs. ![]()

Maya angelou kindness quotes2/17/2024 ![]() ![]() In a 1973 interview, journalist Bill Moyers pointed out to Angelou that she'd become a world citizen and couldn't be put into a box. Maya Angelou during an interview in 1978. Do we like what we see in the mirror? And, according to our light, according to our understanding, according to our courage, we will have to say yea or nay - and rise!" On Looking in the Mirror : In that same interview, Mother Jones asked Angelou "How can progressives take back the political agenda?" Angelou's answer is relevant to both political and personal change. And it’s gonna keep getting better, according to how we put our courage forward, and thrust our hearts forth." Then they compute: 'You mean the life and death and work of Malcolm X and Martin King, the Kennedys, Medgar Evers, Fannie Lou Hamer, the life and struggle of Rosa Parks - they did all that and nothing has changed? Well then, what the hell am I doing? There’s no point for me to do anything.' The truth is, a lot has changed–for the good. Because if we say so, we tell young people, implicitly or explicitly, that there can be no change. "We’ve made a lot of progress - it’s dangerous not to say so. Her reply is a reminder to not let the current state of the world demoralize us - because the kids are watching and listening: In an interview in 1995, asked Angelou if she thought, given America's many problems, if the nation had made any progress since the Civil Rights activism of the 1960's. Rockabilly enthusiasts can easily be spotted thanks to their signature style. Musicians and films of the time, such as James Dean’s Rebel Without a Cause, inspired the look and overall feel of the rock and roll scene. As the years passed, rockabilly eventually developed into its own unique style that was different from mainstream rock and country. Most of them then went on to perform at the Grand Ole Opry alongside other country legends of the time. Many of these musicians and bands got their start down in Memphis, Tennessee at the famous Sun Records Company where they recorded their first tracks. Black musicians such as Chuck Berry, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and Fats Domino were instrumental in the early development of the genre that would later become dominated by white musicians.Ĭharacterized by a strong rhythm, vocal twangs, and an inescapable need to bop along, rockabilly saw its heyday in the 1950s when it was brought to the mainstream through musicians such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly and the Crickets, Bill Haley and the Comets, Wanda Jackson, and Jerry Lee Lewis. The name itself comes from its primary sources: rock and country, or “hillbilly” music as it was referred to at the time. Most early rockabilly musicians came from primarily poor, rural areas of the American south and were thus heavily influenced by the genres that were popular in their hometowns, such as blues and jazz. Annotation of an article2/16/2024 ![]() This task requires the annotator to interpret the text and look for the emotion and implicit context behind it-something that is not readily apparent to humans or machines when looking at the text. Similar to text classification in process and strategy, the annotator plays a larger role in labeling a dataset for sentiment-related tasks. Genre Classification Dataset IMDb | Kaggle Typical examples are binning news clippings into various topics, sorting documents based on their contents, or as simple as looking at movie plot summaries and mapping them to a genre (as shown in some examples below). This annotation process involves the annotators reading every text sample and determining which one of the context-dependent predefined categories each sample belongs to. Document classification involves the categorization of long texts, often with multiple pages. Just as it sounds, a text classification model is meant to take a piece of text (sentence, phrase or paragraph) and determine what category it belongs to. While these may not cover generative text tasks like text summarization, they are important in understanding the different approaches to label a text. However, there are some standard approaches that cover the basic NLP tasks like classifying text and parts of text. Since there are several tasks of varying nature for language interpretation in natural language processing, annotating and preparing the training data for each of them has a different objective. Image by Author What are some types of annotation styles? Even apps for basic search engines and chatbots can be trained to extract information from their queries. For social media companies, that includes flagging inappropriate comments or posts, online forums to flag bots and spammy content, or news websites to remove fake or low-quality pieces. ![]() Large companies that are developing powerful language models today also, on the other hand, rely on text annotation for a number of important use cases. In text classification, for instance, a negative piece of text might be veiled in sarcasm-something that a human reader would instantly recognize, but an algorithm might just see the sarcastically positive words as just positive! Text annotations and labels are invaluable in these cases. Learning without labels, while common today in NLP, is challenging as it is left to the algorithm to identify the nuances of the English language without any additional help and also recognize them when the model is put out in the real world. This speeds up the learning task and improves the algorithm’s performance in the real world. What are the benefits of text annotation?ĭoing what we described above enables a machine learning algorithm to identify different categories and use the data corresponding to these labels to learn what the data from each category typically looks like. More tasks, such as labeling parts of speech (like nouns, verbs, subjects, etc.), labeling key phrases or words in a text for named entity recognition (ner) or to summarize a long article or research paper in a few hundred words all come under annotating text.Ī Comprehensive Guide to Named Entity Recognition (NER) () In text classification, annotating text would mean looking at sentences and marking them, putting each in predefined categories like labeling online reviews as positive or negative, or news clippings as fake or real. This can be likened to the task of labeling cats and dogs in several images for image classification. In the data science world, annotating text is a process that requires a deep understanding of both the problem at hand and the data itself to identify relevant features and label them so. The labeled data ensures that a supervised machine learning algorithm can accurately interpret and understand the data. It refers to the systematic process of labeling pieces of text to generate a ground-truth. In the context of machine learning, the term takes on a slightly different meaning. annotations) before passing it on for corrections. This practice is commonly seen when editors review a draft, adding notes or useful comments (i.e. Traditionally, text annotation involves adding comments, notes, or footnotes to a body of text. ![]()
